Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What exactly is Simplicity?
A: Simplicity is a practical survival guide for the modern world. It is not a religion, a cult, or a self-help fad. It is a system of spiritual physics designed to help you stop suffering.
Most of us live in a state of Terminal Urgency- a constant, anxiety-driven belief that we are out of time and not doing enough. Simplicity provides a specific set of tools (The Five Paths) to dismantle that anxiety, clear your Emotional Debt, and reconnect you with your True Nature. It is about stripping away the noise to find the sanity underneath.
Q: Is this just Minimalism? Do I have to throw away my stuff?
A: No. Minimalism is about your house; Simplicity is about your head.
You can have an empty living room and still be drowning in anxiety, resentment, and fear. While decluttering your physical space can be helpful, Simplicity focuses on decluttering your consciousness. We aren’t concerned with how many shirts you own; we are concerned with how many lies you are carrying.
Q: Who is “The Architect”?
A: You might see references to “The Architects.” This is not one person. It is the collective lineage of teachers, philosophers, mystics, and scientists whose wisdom forms the foundation of Simplicity. This includes everyone from the Stoics and the Buddha to modern neuroscientists and New Thought leaders like Ernest Holmes. Simplicity stands on the shoulders of giants.
Q: What are the “Five Paths”?
A: The Five Paths are the core tools of the system. They are designed to be used in a specific order to move you from chaos to clarity:
- Anchoring: Stopping the mental time-travel and landing in the Now.
- Alignment: Accepting the Is-ness of reality without fighting it.
- Resistance: Refusing to believe the fear-based narratives of the small self.
- Gratitude: Shifting your focus from lack to abundance to align with the Creative Law.
- Liberation: Letting go of the past and claiming your freedom.
Q: I’ve tried meditation and mindfulness apps. How is this different?
A: Mindfulness is often taught as a way to “cope” with stress. Simplicity is designed to eliminate the root cause of the stress.
While we use techniques like Anchoring (which looks like mindfulness), we don’t just sit on a cushion to relax. We use Alignment to accept reality, Resistance to stop the lies of the small self, and Liberation to pay off the emotional debts that keep us stuck. It is an active, aggressive approach to peace, not a passive one.
Q: What is “Emotional Debt”?
A: Emotional Debt is the exhausting price you pay for living in the past. It is the weight of guilt (believing you owe the world for your mistakes) and resentment (believing the world owes you for your pain).
When you carry Emotional Debt, you are paying “interest” on yesterday’s trauma using today’s limited energy. This leaves you spiritually bankrupt in the present moment. Simplicity teaches you how to pay off those debts so you can keep your energy for the Now.
Q: Is Kismet basically karma? Or fate?
A: No. Karma is usually understood as a delayed return- an accumulation of past actions that eventually come back to you. Fate implies a pre-written destiny that you cannot change.
Kismet is neither. It is the immediate, real-time manifestation of your current state of mind. It does not keep a score of your past history or debts; it only responds to your vibration in the Now.
Kismet is the instantaneous feedback loop of the Creative Law. If you are anchored in fear and Ignorance right now, Kismet will immediately manifest situations that confirm that fear. If you shift your mind to Gratitude and Alignment, Kismet shifts with you. It is not a punishment from a judgmental God, nor a reward for past good deeds. It is a mirror. It is the universe proving your current thought true.
Q: Is this a religious teaching? Do I have to believe in God?
A: No. Simplicity is a spiritual technology, not a dogma. You do not need to believe in a bearded man in the sky, nor do you need to belong to any specific faith.
We use the term Spirit and Creative Law to describe the fundamental energy of life, but you can call it whatever you want: The Universe, Nature, Physics, or simply “What Is.” The system works whether you are a devout Catholic, a Buddhist, an atheist, or nothing at all. The only requirement is a willingness to do the work.
Q: I’m in recovery. Is this for me?
A: Absolutely. I am an addictions counselor and a person in long-term recovery myself. I created a specific application of this work called Simplicity in Recovery (SiR).
The principles of Simplicity align perfectly with the 12 Steps but offer a broader metaphysical framework. We deal heavily with The Wound- the underlying trauma that drives addiction- and offer tools to manage the small self that leads to relapse. If you are looking for the “spiritual awakening” promised in the Steps, this is a roadmap to get there.
Q: Do I need to become a monk to do this?
A: No. I tried that. I flew to Thailand, shaved my head, and lived in the jungle. I learned that you cannot run away from your problems because you take your head with you.
Simplicity is designed for regular people with jobs, kids, mortgages, and messy lives. The goal isn’t to retreat to a cave; the goal is to find your Unshakeable Center while standing in line at the grocery store or dealing with a difficult boss.
Q: How long does it take to work?
A: Simplicity is a practice, not a pill. You don’t “finish” it. However, the relief from Anchoring can be felt immediately.
Think of it like physical fitness. You don’t go to the gym once and stay fit forever. You have to keep lifting the weights. The more you use the Five Paths, the quieter the small self becomes, and the longer you can stay in your True Nature.
Q: How do I start?
A: You don’t need to buy a robe or sign a contract.
